The lost art of reading

Sitting on the buses and trains leaves me cold with the amount of people that actually read books these days. I took a quick head count 28 people on this train carriage the number of people reading (mind you I'm not including myself in this) 0, zero, zilch, nada, noone. They are happy to sit and tap away text messages or listen to their iPods. Noone is actually reading. We are living no longer in a macro-society but thousands of micro-societies consisting of unilateral decision making, based on the question "How does this effect me?"
